Tom Patterson, Round Rock School District’s Deerpark Middle School Director of Bands, has loved music since he was a child. As a young student in Central Texas, Tom Patterson graduated from high school later acquiring an All-Level Certification in Music Education. At that young age he already knew that he wanted to be a Middle School Band Director at a school district like Round Rock. Charting the course was straight forward. From the spring of 1994 until the spring 1997 he played with The University Orchestra.

Living the life of both a student and a musician laid a strong foundation for his later position in the Round Rock school district. Tom Patterson performed with the University Orchestra and The University Wind Ensemble as well as at Carnegie Hall and in the University Opera. Round Rock’s Tom Patterson also accompanied The University Chorus as well as played in The University's Marching Band.

Round Rock District’s Deerpark Middle School Band director Tom Patterson completed his Masters in Music Education at the University in 2002. Patterson also performed with The University Wind Ensemble, having secured his Bachelor of Music Education from there in 1998. His academics stood out and he was placed on the Dean’s list. While at the University he was also an outstanding soloist, an experience that continues to be valuable for Tom Patterson in his current position in the Round Rock District at Deerpark Middle School.

On the journey to become a Band Director in Round Rock, Tom Patterson began his career as an educator in the fall of 1998. He was hired as both a student teacher at Westwood High School and Grisham Middle School. Additionally, Patterson was appointed Assistant Band Director at Bailey Middle School AISD. Round Rocks’s Tom Patterson also worked as a Lesson Instructor at Westwood High School, Grisham Middle School, and Fulmore Middle School. In the spring of 1999 Round Rock’s Tom Patterson was recognized as a distinguished teacher.

In the four years prior to his current position as Band Director in Round Rock’s Deerpark Middle School, Tom Patterson was employed as Associate Band Director at Stony Point High School RRISD as well as an Assistant Band Director at Ridgeview, Hopewell, CD Fulkes Middle Schools. Since 2004, Tom Patterson has served in the Round Rock school district at Deerpark Middle School.

Tom Patterson’s tenure as a Round Rock band director is best reflected in the performance and accomplishments of his students at Deerpark Middle School. Tom Patterson and his Deerpark/Round Rock school district band students have been recognized several times for their excellence in competitions, receiving many awards in sight-reading, performance, beginning bands, jazz bands and entering the Texas State Honor Band process. Certainly, Round Rock school district’s band director Tom Patterson and the students at Deerpark are a true reflection of his passion to be an example to young musicians.

Round Rock school district’s Deerpark Director of Bands Tom Patterson is a member in good standing with the Music Educators Association and the College Bandmasters Association. He is a member of the Music Educators Association, Bandmasters Association, the University Ex-Student Association Member and an Alumni Band Member.
